Online Arguing

Hi everyone! This week, I analyzed a comment section of a post on twitter that caused for a lot of disagreement. Here is the link:

I chose this online argument because I have seen this argument pop up on all of my social medias and it is very prevalent at the moment.

The first concern I have with this argument is that the individuals taking part in the argument did not ever include evidence or proof behind their words. They only based their words on opinion.

Another negative example is the disrespect that individuals have in the comment section. There is a time and place for bad words to be used and it is not in the comments section of an online post.

The last concern I have with this argument is that it very much appears that individuals are not open minded as they read comments in the argument. People go into the comment section with a need to say their opinion, but do not have an open mind when it comes to reading others.

Because of this, here are 5 rules for how people should argue online correctly:

1. NEVER, and I mean, NEVER, use harsh language. No matter the situation

2. Go in with an open mind

3. If you're going to voice your opinion, give some valid reasons as to why you feel that way

4. Don't reply too quick! Think long and hard before you click post. You can never take back something that you posted, no matter how much you think you've deleted it.

5. Only speak on things you're knowledgable about. There is nothing worse than an individual arguing about something they know nothing about.

I have also attached here a YouTube video that I came across about arguing and how a debate world champions describes it. It does not necessarily relate to arguing online but I found a few points to make sense online as well!
